This American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support Instructor course is the core educational foundation for all American Heart Association instructors to effectively deliver and provide consistent CPR training. This, plus discipline specific courses, allows instructors to achieve consistency and uniformity in their presentation of course material. This course provides instructor candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to teach BLS provider courses and Heartsaver First Aid and CPR courses for lay rescuers.
Important: New instructor candidates must complete the AHA online core curriculum, BLS Instructor Essentials, prior to class (additional cost, $30). Register online to complete BLS Instructor Essentials at the American Heart Association website. Please bring a copy of the certificate of completion to class.
Prerequisite: Instructor candidates must provide a current AHA Healthcare Provider or ARC Professional Rescuer card.
Course Textbook: The BLS Instructor Manual and other instructor resources are available through authorized American Heart Association Distributors online (Channing Bete, Laerdal)
Membership to an AHA Community Training Center (CTC) is required; the $25 fee is not included in the course. Upon successful completion of the course and monitoring of a class, certification will be issued. Refresher training is required every two years.
