This course provides students with 40 hours of classroom/lab instruction and 100 hours of clinical practice in phlebotomy techniques. Topics include equipment and procedures for blood collection by venipuncture and capillary punctures. Students will learn basic anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, specimen handling, clinical relevance of laboratory tests, safety, liability, and professional ethics. Graduates are eligible to take the national Phlebotomy Technician examination from the ASCP.

Requirements:
-Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
-Proof of immunization, TB screening and current AHA BLS certification
-Mandatory clinical rotations are during day hours and require standing for 8 hours at a time
-Background check (additional $9.10 fee required if fingerprinting and photograph is needed)
-Must participate in lab each class period
