This 100-hour course is for entry level Precision Sheet Metal fabricators that have both mathematical and mechanical aptitudes and a strong commitment to safety. The focus of the course is to prepare students for an entry level job as a safe precision sheet metal machine operator in a manufacturing company.

Typical machine operations are:

  • Press Brakes
  • Laser Cutters
  • Turret Punches

Approximately one-third of the hours are spent in the classroom with the remainder of the class time in the sheet metal lab learning both general and machine-specific processes. Among topics covered in and out of the classroom are shop and machine-specific safety, applied shop math, blueprint reading skills, hand and measuring tools, concepts of quality, inspection and LEAN, ISO 9000, metallurgy, workflow, basic tool set-up and maintenance, and problem-solving and troubleshooting.

Successful completion of this course includes the  Fundamentals of Metal Fabrication certification offered by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International https://www.fmanet.org/training

Upon successful completion of the program, all students will receive a college certificate of completion and will have a permanent college transcript of learning. All instructors in the program are Precision Sheet Metal Operator (PSMO) Certified.
