Class Series: Part Two

Anoka Technical College Phlebotomy students who have successfully completed the 40 hour classroom training within the last year may register to complete a 100 hour phlebotomy clinical experience in a healthcare facility. Approval by the program director is required for enrollment.

  • Students must submit all required health records (immunizations and TB testing), a current AHA BLS Provider CPR certification card, and pass a DHS background study ($44.00 non-refundable fee, plus a $10.50 fingerprinting fee).
  • Students must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.

Clinical policies will be reviewed, and students will demonstrate blood draw technique competency.

Clinical:       April 6 – May 22, 2026
Location, dates and times will be assigned by course faculty; students may not contact clinical sites directly. Students will attend full time, 8-hour day shifts, Monday-Friday, for 2.5 straight weeks within this date window.

Clinical placements are final and students are responsible for transportation costs and any parking fees at the clinical site. Students are not paid for participating in a clinical experience.

Class Series: Part One

Part One of this course series provides students with instruction in phlebotomy techniques. Topics include equipment and procedures for blood collection by venipuncture and capillary punctures. Students will learn basic anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, specimen handling, clinical relevance of laboratory tests, safety, liability, and professional ethics.

Students must successfully pass part one of the course series in order to register for part two.
